Chagos Islands vs Surrey 22/12/19

Chagos Islands host their first home Non-Fifa match

Chris Walker

Sunday saw the Chagos Islands host their first home Non-Fifa match as they took on International Surrey Football on the Broadfield 3G pitch in the shadow of Crawley Town FC’s Broadfield Stadium. Both teams had new managers on their debuts, Jimmy Ferrar for the hosts and Matt Dilger for Surrey.

Surrey took a 3-0 lead in the first half after strikes for Steve Harcombe and Tony Harlesey, making their Surrey debuts, whilst Steven Kehl’s shot was parried into the net by Chagos keeper Cedric Joseph.  The second half saw two more goals added. Substitute Nat Williams picked up a wayward free kick clearance from Joseph, to send it back over the keepers head into an empty net, whilst Hansley Sagai gained a superb consolation goal with a stunning free kick. Surrey’s 4-1 win helps ease the pain of the 3-2 defeat to Chagos earlier in the year.

I would like to say a big thank you to both Chagos and Surrey for their help with the broadcast
