We saw contrasting weather conditions from our previous Womens Football coverage as we swapped boiling hot Northolt for a distinctly cold, wet and overcast St Neots as Cambridge United WFC welcomed unbeaten divisional leaders Billericay Town Ladies to the Premier Plus Stadium.
Due to injuries, unavailability and work commitments, the hosts made 6 changes to the starting line up , who got off to the worst start possible, bringing down Zoe Rushen for a penalty in the first minute. This was converted by Danica Dougal.
In what was always going to be a tough proposition, Cambridge restricted the visitors, fighting a strong rearguard action, falling 2-0 behind on 23 minutes , Addison’s effort from the edge of the box skidding just over Liz Pamplin’s dive. The second half saw the vastly experienced stopper make a string of class saves to deny Billericay whilst the wasted a glut of chances, their accuracy letting them down.
This was the narrowest win the leaders have had this season, which can only boost Cambridge’s confidence ahead of their match against Stevenage next Sunday
