AFC Basildon Women vs Cambridge United Women

Sunday saw a first for CWSport Radio as commentary came from 5 feet beneath sea level at Park Lane, the home of Canvey Island FC, as AFC Basildon Women took on Cambridge United Women. On a sunny but fresh afternoon the hosts dominated the first half but had a wake up call when Kelley Banchflower pounced on a stray pass and the proceeded to power past Grace Gillard before firing the ball past Charlotte Bolland to give Cambridge the lead against the run of play.

The half time introduction of Holly Turner for Basildon changed the game and after the restart the visitors were put under relentless pressure. But 2 goals in as many minutes from Cerys Adams took the victory for the hosts. Cambridge were punished for failing to clear the ball from Poppy Bindings corner and Adams stabbed the ball home, before unleashing a piledriver from 30 yards that flew into the top corner of Sav Smiths goal.

I would like to say a massive thank you to Canvey Island FC and AFC Basildon Women for their help in making the broadcast happen.
