Following the 1-1 draw on Saturday, I travelled round the M25 to Addlestone in Surrey for the replay. In front of a crowd of 190, the hosts fell behind on 7 minutes when Callum Ibe popped the ball over the keeper on the edge of the area.
Walthamstow’s lead lasted until five minutes from the break when Marcus Cousins’ bullet header levelled things. Just on the hour mark what a penalty was awarded to Abbey Rangers, and substitute Bradley Sweeney made no mistake from 12 yards.
The weather played its part too, relatively fine in the first half but from the interval onwards the heavens opened so all the broadcast kit went straight under the table at our broadcasting position on the halfway line, standing directly opposite to the technical areas.
So it ended 2-1 and Abbey Rangers’ fairytale continues. A side that priori to this season had never won a game in the FA Cup and with this win have now won more games than lost.
I would like to thank everyone at Abbey Rangers for the welcome I received at the ground and for all the help given to me to ensure the broadcast was a success.
